The reasons of increased impulsivity in behavior

Scientists have shown that increased impulsivity in behavior is the result of decreased activity of the hormone receptors of dopamine in the striatum of the brain, which leads to excessive release of his brain cells and may be associated with a predisposition of people to drugs, tobacco and alcohol, according to the publication in the journal Science.

The study's authors - a team led by Joshua Bakholtsa from Vanderbilt University in the U.S. - in its work it for granted that the differences exhibited by different people in impulsivity in behavior in some way connected with the work of the hormone dopamine in the brain. This hormone acts as a neurotransmitter, causing the neurons to activate and transmit electrical impulses.

To test this hypothesis, the researchers worked with 32 volunteers - both physically and mentally healthy people. Each of them passed the test on the propensity to impulsive behavior on the scale of the so-called impulsive Barratt. During the experiment, participants received a small amount of stimulant - dextroamphetamine, the scientists using brain imaging to track the amount of dopamine produced by their brain in response to receiving the stimulus and the degree of assimilation of released hormone specific dopamine receptors.

Scientists have shown that the tendency toward impulsive behavior in their study was provided directly proportional to the amount of dopamine produced by the brain and is inversely proportional to the degree of assimilation of its dopamine receptor D2.

Researchers have also shown that increased dopamine release in the brain of volunteers accompanied by an increased desire to repeat the experiment and get a new batch of stimulus.

Bakholts and his team believe that the primary cause of increased impulsivity of behavior is exactly the reduced D2 receptor activity in the so-called corpus striatum of the brain of people. It makes specially designed for the cells to produce more dopamine in the brain than the more balanced people.

Who is lonely, he runs the risk of

Loneliness pernicious than lack of exercise, and does a man twice vreda.Takoy conclusion was made by U.S. researchers. Analysis of data about 300 thousand people showed that social isolation is harmful to health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day or abuse of alcohol.

A study by the staff of Brigham Young University (Utah, USA), showed that support from family, friends and neighbors are able to increase our chances by half to a healthy old age.

Conclusions unexpected, but scientists insist that the lack of social support can and should add to the list of risk factors for premature death. According to them, if a man talks to a group of relatives or friends, and feels responsible for other people, he cares more about himself and less exposed to various risks.

Previously it was shown that loneliness after 50 years increases the risk of hypertension. Curiously, the direct link between loneliness and increased blood pressure is not determined by age and other factors such as smoking and obesity, and does not depend on depression and stress. And lonely lurking Alzheimer's disease: according to statistics, in senile dementia alone is diagnosed twice as often.
